Writing a Resume As a Line Cook
Writing a Resume As a Line CookWriting a resume as a line cook is not easy. If you're lucky, your husband or girlfriend will get the hint and immediately say that you've got it made if you continue to put your own career aspirations on hold. If this happens, you should be more than happy with yourself. When writing a resume, it's important to remember that not every skill can be transferred to the next level, so be sure to carefully list all of the items that you're skilled in, even if it means doing an entire new category of skills. It's OK to exaggerate a little bit, but make sure you leave out any more than necessary.Writing a resume as a line cook isn't easy, because the most important skill that you can be called upon to have is an excellent eye for detail. You're not going to make it without mastering the art of printing. Here are some tips for you to help you out.If you're just starting out, the first thing you should do is invest in a cover letter, which could be done by havin g a friend or family member write it for you. Just be sure that the cover letter is your first impression of yourself. You should look for other things that will help you improve your career skills as a cook. For example, if you were born in the Philippines, find a Filipino-American magazine or other industry publication and read up on the best restaurants in town. Ask your friends for recommendations, too. You may find that the best restaurants in town are the ones who have hired a foreign-born cook.Your resume should be short and sweet. You should also have the skills needed for the position you're applying for, and that includes menu development, customer service, and one way communication. A resume can be more than a first impression, because the employer is assessing whether you'll be able to be reliable and attentive. If you're looking for a job as a line cook, make sure you are proficient in good customer service skills. Be sure to have a portfolio of different dishes that you can show off when the customer comes in. You should also get a sense of what it's like to work as a line cook so that when you're interviewing, you can bring a few samples along with you.One way communication skills will help you land a job is through your ability to deal with customers. The fact that you aren't a born leader in the kitchen, and can be intimidated by the chef in front of you, doesn't mean that you don't deserve a job. You can start learning from this experience and come up with more skills to use when you're out in the kitchen.Good communication skills can mean the difference between a customer who leaves a bad meal or their money's worth and a satisfied customer who leaves a tip. When it comes to cooking a delicious meal, every diner is worth the same, no matter what their background. If you are patient, thoughtful, and know how to handle conflict and push your customers to be more productive in the kitchen, you'll soon be considered a trusted asset. If you're a gre at cook but just don't know how to talk to people at a job interview, don't worry. You have the right fork.Have a friend come over, and just talk to them for a while. Many people think they would easily get over an office grilling or a question about salary, but talking in person is a totally different matter. It's not easy to write a resume as a line cook, but it is possible. Your ability to speak fluently in front of a person who is often angry or worried about leaving bad food, and your ability to respond to a question quickly enough that the customer feels comfortable giving a tip, will make you more valuable than you think.

Laughter Really Is The Best Medicine How To Draw A Fox And Heal A Child With Illustrator Steve Barr
Blog & website of children's book author Tara Lazar Laughter Really is the Best Medicine: How to Draw a Fox and Heal a Child with Illustrator Steve Barr Iâm thrilled to welcome Steve Barr today with an idea that will touch the hearts of many⦠As a professional cartoonist and the author of 13 âHow to Drawâ books, Iâve spent my entire life trying to make other people laugh and smile. While this has been an extremely satisfying endeavor over the years, itâs not exactly a get-rich-quick scheme! My path along the way has had many ups and downs, triumphs and failures. But the rewardsâ"those smiles on other peopleâs facesâ"have always made me feel like the roller-coaster ride we know as freelancing was worth it. However, lately Iâve found myself longing to do something with a much more profound, longer-lasting impact. Iâve begun to feel drawn (no pun intended!) to begin working with pediatric patients and their families. Art activities, as well as music therapy, has been shown to substantially reduce stress in young children who are battling really difficult diseases. Drawing and painting has even been proven to have fairly long-lasting effects involving pain reduction. Find that hard to believe? Check out the results of this study that was released by the National Institute of Health! I canât think of a better type of art therapy than teaching children to draw cartoons! Itâs easy to do, entertaining and distracting. When kids are in the hospital, they have very little control over anything in their life. Theyâre expected to follow orders, and do whatever they are told. But when theyâre drawing cartoons, there are NO RULES! Cartooning is one of the only art forms I know of where someoneâs art is not expected to look exactly like someone elseâs. Every successful cartoonist I know has a very distinct style that is easily recognizable as their own. Thatâs why Iâll be teaching the children to experiment, to try different techniques, explore options and just have fun with their creations. Their drawings will begin with simple lines and shapes, and weâll build on that to come up with characters that they can bring to life! The lessons are so easy to follow, Iâve had five year-olds grasp them immediately and amaze me with their natural talent. Click image for full page, printable version. Once the patients and their families feel comfortable with the cartoons theyâve drawn, theyâll be encouraged to experiment by making slight alterations to their creation to change them into other characters. That will let them have hours of fun on their own after Iâve left. I want to provide these services completely free of charge to the hospitals, patients, their families and the art therapy groups that serve the facilities where theyâre being treated. Iâm dreaming of also sharing them with the surrounding communities and bringing more attention to the lingering benefits these classes will have. But I canât do this alone. I need help. Iâve begun researching grant opportunities and funding possibilities, but those can be very difficult for individuals to qualify for. With that in mind, I decided to set up a âGo Fund Meâ page and seek funding from other people who would like to help me make this happen. If youâd like to take a peek at that campaign, hereâs a link: http://www.gofundme.com/e9oahg When children are hospitalized and fighting diseases like cancer, they often have a difficult time expressing how they are feeling. Art therapy can often help them open up and share their emotions. When theyâre drawing cartoons, they can do that simply and easily with just a few shapes and lines. This can help both the medical staff and their therapists determine where the kids are in the process, and address any problems theyâre having in dealing with their treatments. I am hoping that this idea will continue to grow. If it really takes off, I would love to involve other cartoonists and illustrators in the effort. It has already become quite a time-consuming process, but I know the rewards will be fantastic. If youâd like to help, but canât contribute, please feel free to share the link with your friends: http://www.gofundme.com/e9oahg. Any exposure will be helpful, and together we can put smiles on lots of little faces and laughter in their hearts. I honestly cannot think of a better way to spend the next few years of my life. And perhaps even longer than that! Note: Please feel free to use the drawing lessons Iâve included in this blog if you are an Art Therapist, Child Life Specialist, Teacher or Nurse who works with children. Parents and guardians are also welcome to share the lessons with their kids. Itâs not to be republished commercially without permission, but Iâd be quite happy if it was shared personally with kids who would enjoy it.
